Add a Little Luck to Your Big Day!

The tradition of the horseshoe is centuries old, it stands for luck and protection, and has a long association with weddings. It's a gift that is often given to a couple to wish them good luck into the future and it’s a keepsake for life. Many brides choose the horseshoe as their ideal way of adding the 'something old' tradition to their wedding day.

But where could I get one for our special day you might ask? And how can I make it unique and personal to us? Luckily Anne from Biddys Good Luck Horse Shoes is here to help us out. It all started for Anne back in 1990, on the day of her own wedding, when she got a gift from her Flowergirl Cecelia of a wedding horseshoe. Having a love for horses and also for tradition Anne thought it was a delightful present. From that moment it was easy for her to start a craft business that was close to her heart and that she had a passion for. Over 30 years later the business has never been better and currently, Anne is creating personalised horseshoes and shipping them not just to Ireland, but Worldwide. Her business has grown from strength to strength and Anne regularly features in newspapers, radio, and TV and most recently featured on Ireland AM.

Anne makes to order so she's able to personalise each horseshoe to the couples' requirements making it a unique gift for their day. Nobody else will have one like theirs. It’s a boxed gift with a story so it’s very special, and these days it’s all about making special memories. Each shoe has been worn by one of their horses and is cleaned right back and restored to new. They then paint & treat it several times before decorating. Each horseshoe is totally unique, and each design is totally unique to you. Anne also does a lot of commissions, where somebody has an old horseshoe and wants it restored, or finds one and gets it restored.

At the moment there are many ideas and designs for weddings, for example, a gold shoe with pearls hand sewn on, broaches for sparkle and luxury cream or pearl coloured ribbon is very popular. Flowers can also be added to each horseshoe and they are ideal for the flower girl to carry down the aisle. Many brides like to decorate the church or hotel with horseshoes for luck, by adding them to the back of the wedding chairs, on some of the pew ends in the church, on the cake table, or on the memory table, even on the top table as decorations. Anne also makes horseshoe favours, which are given to the guests, normally one between each couple making it a great way to say thank you for being a part of your special day.

Lately, they have been busy creating lots of good luck horseshoes for postponements where a family member or bridesmaid might give it as a gift on the day of the original date. They make to order and while it's best to order early, Anne can certainly make a beautiful piece within a week and post nationwide/worldwide.
